Anna Bjerde: WB invested over $4.5B in Azerbaijan’s economy

The World Bank has invested over $4.5 billion in the Azerbaijani economy, World Bank Vice-President for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde said at the “High Level Forum Azerbaijan: Growth Projects in the Changing Global Economy” in Baku, Report informs.

“Over the three decades the World Bank has invested about $4.5 billion into more than 50 development projects covering almost all sectors of the country’s economy. We helped the government in developing the country’s infrastructure, energy, agriculture, environment and also did a lot of work in rural areas,” she noted.

She highlighted two projects implemented by the WB in Azerbaijan in the oil and water sectors.

Since the declaration of independence and the beginning of economic transformation, WB’s partnership and cooperation with Azerbaijan continues and develops to this day, said Bjerde.

Over the past 30 years, the Azerbaijani economy has grown significantly, important reforms have been carried out in various areas, she added.
