AIIB appoints Pakistani official as alternative director for Azerbaijan

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has replaced an alternative director for Azerbaijan from Turkey.

Mohammad Aslam Chaudhary, a Pakistani citizen, has been appointed to the post. He is currently the Secretary of the Economic Affairs Department of the Government of Pakistan.

He will hold the same position in Azerbaijan, Turkey, Brunei, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, and Pakistan.

Necmettin Ozdin, Assistant Director-General of the Turkish Ministry of Treasury and Finance, has left the bank.

Currently, another alternative director of the AIIB is Georgian citizen Nikoloz Gagua. Gagua is presently Georgia's Deputy Finance Minister.

On June 29, 2015, in Beijing (China), 57 countries signed an agreement to establish the AIIB. Azerbaijani Finance Minister Samir Sharifov inked the contract. Official Baku's membership was ratified on June 24, 2016. At present, the share of official Baku in the bank is 0.2626 percent, and the percentage of voting is 0.4229 percent..
