Paris Olympics cancels open water swimming training due to poor water quality

The organizers of the Paris Olympic Games announced on Tuesday the cancellation of open water swimming training sessions that were scheduled to take place in the Seine River. The decision was made due to the poor quality of the water, as reported by France Presse.

"After a daily meeting on the situation this morning, it was decided that the familiarization session, which was to take place on August 6, 2024, is canceled," the statement read.

This announcement comes on the heels of the men's and women's triathlon competitions held in Paris on July 31, which proceeded despite the cancellation of training swims and a delayed start for the men's event, also attributed to the poor water quality in the river. The pollution was blamed on recent rainfall.

Organizers received permission to hold the triathlon competitions only on Wednesday morning.
