NOC: Ukraine ready to participate in 2024 Games in Paris if Russians are admitted

Ukrainian athletes are ready to take part in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris even with the admission of athletes from Russia and Belarus in a neutral status, Report informs referring to Gazeta.ru, quoting the head of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine Vadym Gutzeit in an interview with Kyodo News.

"We simply have to perform at the Olympics," he said, adding that the Ukrainian side would agree to participate in the Games, subject to the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes in a neutral status.

At the moment, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has not yet invited the Russian Federation and Belarus to participate in the Games, which will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

On July 27, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine lifted the ban on the participation of its athletes in international competitions with athletes from Russia and Belarus.

At a meeting of the IOC executive committee on March 28, it was recommended to allow the Russians in a neutral status if the athletes were not actively involved in supporting hostilities.

At the same time, the organization proposes to refuse participation to athletes associated with the Armed Forces and security agencies, as well as teams in team disciplines.
