World renowned company to provide communication services for TAP

Motorola Solutions is providing the Transmission System Operator for the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) with a digital radio solution to secure voice and data communications along the multinational route of the gas pipeline, Report informs referring to World Pipelines.

The 878 km pipeline is vital to the European economy and has transported more than 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas to date from Azerbaijan into Europe. For its cross-border operation, TAP requires seamless communication solutions to be able to connect teams at any time.

The 38 site Motorola Solutions MOTOTRBO Capacity Max Trunked Radio System has been deployed along the entire pipeline, which crosses Greece, Albania, and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in southern Italy.

“Any communication equipment used in the natural gas sector must adhere to the highest security standards to keep workers and operations connected,” said Michael Kaae, regional vice president of Europe at Motorola Solutions.

Motorola Solutions is a global leader in critical communications and analytics.

TAP transports natural gas from the Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea to Europe. The 878 km pipeline in Kipoy near the Turkish-Greek border connects with the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), runs through Greece, Albania, and the Adriatic Sea to southern Italy.

Since December 31, 2020, on the first day of the start of Azerbaijani gas supplies to Europe, 10.9 million cubic meters of gas have been transported via TAP.

TAP can stimulate gas supplies to the countries of Southeast Europe through interconnectors, which will be built in the future. For example, Bulgaria will be able to enhance the security of supply by meeting 33 percent of its natural gas needs through TAP. The gas pipeline exit points on the territory of Greece and Albania, as well as Italy, open up opportunities for the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to other European countries.
