US Congressman suggests imposing sanctions on Hungary over Russian oil

US House Representative from Democrats Raja Krishnamoorthi has proposed sanctions against Hungary for its opposition to the embargo on Russian oil.

Report informs citing foreign media that the congressman outlined this idea in a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

He called on the top official to continue to play an essential role in helping the EU reduce its dependence on Russian oil.

Krishnamoorthi said he was particularly concerned about Hungary’s continued opposition to the oil embargo and urged Blinken to consider all instruments, including sanctions, to reach a final agreement with Hungary to ban Russian oil.

The congressman brought to the attention of the Secretary of State a two-tier approach to solving the problem - to increase US commitment to the Three Seas Initiative and to consider imposing sanctions on companies in Hungary that continue to do business with Russian oil exporters if Prime Minister Viktor Orban continues to slow down EU negotiations.
