UAE rep to arrive in Baku to lay foundation of $200M project

UAE Minister of Energy Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei will arrive in Azerbaijan on a visit on March 14, Report informs.

The purpose of the visit is to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the solar energy park in Azerbaijan.

The event is scheduled for March 15.

Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, will also arrive in Azerbaijan along with the minister of the UAE.

On April 6 last year, the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry and Azerenerji OJSC signed with Masdar an “Investment Agreement,” an “Energy Purchase and Sale Agreement” and a “Transmission Grid Connection Agreement” for a 230 MW solar power plant project.

The document was inked by Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, President of Azerenerji Baba Rzayev from the Azerbaijani side, and Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi from Masdar.

The solar power plant will produce 500 million kWh of electricity per year, save 110 million cubic meters of natural gas, reduce carbon emissions by 200,000 tons, and create new jobs. The cost of the project is $200 million. The power plant will be integrated into the power system by connecting to the Janub substation.
