Turkiye to pay for part of Russian gas supplies in rubles

Russia and Turkiye have moved to settlements in rubles for a portion of Russian gas supplies, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak said in a statement, Report informs, citing TASS.

"I can say for sure that some of our payments have been converted into rubles," he said.

Novak did not answer the question of whether Turkiye is asking Russia for a discount on gas, calling it a commercial story between buyers and consumers.

On September 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, during which he announced an agreement on Ankara paying 25% of Russian gas supplies in rubles.
