Türkiye plans to produce 10M cubic meters of gas in Black Sea in 1Q2025

Türkiye plans to increase daily natural gas production at the Sakarya field in the Black Sea to 10 million cubic meters in the first quarter of 2025, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said in an interview with Sabah newspaper, Report informs.

“The level of Black Sea gas production last Sunday [April 28] reached 4.5 million cubic meters per day, and during May it will increase to 5 million cubic meters per day. In the first quarter of 2025, we aim to increase this figure to 10 million cubic meters per day. We purchased a floating platform to increase production capacity, its reconstruction is currently underway in Singapore. We expect to deliver the platform to our country by the New Year, and after its commissioning, production will increase by another 10 million cubic meters per day,” the minister said.

At the same time, he pointed out the need for new gas discoveries in the area of ​​the Sakarya field, since this region “has much greater potential.”

“Currently, on the border of our exclusive economic zone with Romania in the Black Sea, not far from Sakarya, the Goktepe-1 exploration well is being drilled, and in May it is planned to begin drilling another well in the same territory to search for gas deposits,” he said.

The head of the Ministry of Energy added that after gas, Türkiye intends to search for oil deposits in the Black Sea.

“In June we plan to start drilling in the southern part of the Sakarya field to search for signs of oil,” Bayraktar said.

It was earlier reported that at the initial stage it is planned to produce about 10 million cubic meters of gas per day from this field, or from 3.4 billion to 4 billion per year. By 2028, daily production should reach 40 million cubic meters (15 billion cubic meters per year).
