TotalEnergies and SOCAR join forces to accelerate methane emissions detection and reduction

As part of their commitment to identify, quantify, and reduce methane emissions linked to their activities, TotalEnergies and SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic) have signed a cooperation agreement to carry out drone-based methane detection and measurement campaigns, Report informs, citing TotalEnergies.

A first campaign will be conducted on the Absheron gas field, in which both TotalEnergies and SOCAR are partners, and subsequent campaigns will be launched on SOCAR's assets in Azerbaijan.

"After a worldwide campaign to detect and quantify emissions by drone on all our operated upstream oil and gas facilities, we are very pleased to share our experience and highly recognized technology with our long-standing partner, SOCAR. Deploying this technology on the Absheron field and then on SOCAR's own assets will enable us to achieve our collective ambition to aim for zero methane emissions," said Emmanuel de Guillebon, Managing Director and Country Chair of TotalEnergies Azerbaijan.

"This collaboration represents a pivotal moment in our journey towards environmental stewardship. The integration of AUSEA technology in our operations is a testament to our commitment to sustainability and responsible energy production. We are pleased to join forces with TotalEnergies in this venture, setting new standards in the industry for methane emission detection and reduction. Together, we are not just aiming for compliance but for leadership in environmental responsibility," said Rovshan Najaf, President of SOCAR.
