SPE conference to take place as virtual event

The decision has been made to run this year’s SPE Annual Caspian Technical Conference of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) as a virtual event on October 5-7 instead of an in-person conference in Baku, Report informs referring to the SPE website.

Registration for the conference is already open, the organizers said.

Although there will be no in-person event this year, the new format will open the conference to an even wider audience that will be able to access the technical program without logistical constraints. In addition, for the first time, instead of the usual delegate fee, SPE will provide free access to the event, which was only made possible with the continued support of sponsors.

The transition to a virtual conference format is due to both the uncertainty surrounding the ongoing global pandemic and restrictions on travel and access to visas.

Despite this change, the objectives for holding the conference will continue to be about bringing together oil and gas professionals in Azerbaijan and the Caspian region to discuss the latest technical developments and to promote the region as a hub for technical innovation and expertise in the oil and gas sector.

As with the 2020 Caspian Technical Conference, which successfully ran as a virtual event, the conference will include the full 2021 technical program and all panel sessions, as well as the other features that were planned for the in-person event, including the Regional Student Development Summit.

There will also be a unique opportunity to engage with industry leaders and E&P experts from the region and across the globe through our virtual platform’s advanced networking capabilities.

The three plenary panel topics include: Unlocking Value through New Technology and Digitalization; Attracting and Retaining Talent in a Challenging Market and Maximizing Efficiencies in Today’s Evolving Landscape.
