Solar energy generation increases by 13% in Azerbaijan

From January through February 2021, products and services in Azerbaijan’s sector of production, distribution, and supply of electricity, gas, and steam totaled 432.2 million manats.

Report informs, citing the Azerbaijani State Statistical Committee, that this is a decline of 3.1% in comparison with the same period last year.

The volume of products generated in the water supply, waste treatment, and processing sector dropped by 0.6%, to 51.3 million manats.

Over the first two months of this year, 4,279 million kWh of electricity was produced in Azerbaijan, which is 1.7% less than in the same period last year. Of this volume, 4,141.6 million kWh was commercial production, a drop of 2% from a year earlier.

Of this production volume, hydroelectric power plants accounted for 134.6 million kWh, which is 8.1% more than a year earlier.

The thermal power plants generated 3,987.2 million kWh, which is 2.2% less than in the first two months of 2020.

During the reporting period, wind power plants generated 14.5 million kWh, which is 14.7% less than the 2020 figures.

From January through February 2021, Azerbaijan produced 5.3 million kWh of solar energy, which is 12.8% more than in the first two months of 2020.
