Solar energy generation down 9% in Azerbaijan

In January 2021, the generation and services of Azerbaijan’s sector of production, distribution, and supply of electricity, gas, and steam amounted to AZN 191.1 million ($112.4 million), Report informs, citing the country’s State Statistical Committee.

Compared to the same period last year, the growth was 1.3%.

The production volume in the water supply, waste treatment, and recycling sector increased by 2.2% to amount to AZN 23.8 million ($14 million).

In January 2021, Azerbaijan produced over 2.225 billion kWh of electricity, which is 1.8% more than in January 2020. Of this amount, 75.0 million kWh were generated by hydroelectric power plants, which is 17.4% more than in January 2020.

Thermal power plants accounted for 2.068 billion kWh (1% growth), wind power plants - 9 million kWh (25% growth), solar power plants - 2 million kWh (9.1% decrease).
