SOCAR Petroleum: CNG consumers save over $18M

In 2015-2020, Azerbaijan consumed 86 million cubic meters of compressed natural gas (CNG), a source in SOCAR Petroleum told Report.

During this period, CNG consumers saved 31 million manats ($18.2 million). At the same time, emissions of greenhouse gases into the country’s atmosphere decreased by 44,000 tons. For over a year now, SOCAR Petroleum and 189 TAXI have continued their joint Eco Taxi project.

CNG-powered equipment was installed in the company’s cars within the framework of the cooperation.

As part of the project, taxis covered 500,000 km during the year and transported 17,000 customers. Unlike traditional fuel, CNG consumption by taxis decreased 2.5 times. For example, a cab running on gasoline spends 650 manats ($382.5) on fuel per month, while a cab running on CNG spends 250 manats ($147.1). Thus, every month the amount of savings makes 400 manats ($235.4).

Moreover, the volume of greenhouse gases emitted into the country’s atmosphere decreased by 11 tons over the year. This figure is many times higher for other types of fuel. In urban and public transport, CNG fuel is one of the most efficient and environmentally friendly fuels.

SOCAR Petroleum owns a network for the sale of car fuel and petroleum products, consisting of 38 filling stations and 11 oil terminals. A leader in CNG use as a vehicle fuel, SOCAR Petroleum has a terminal for its production and sale. The cost of one cubic meter of this environmentally friendly fuel is 45 qepiks (26 cents), and the consumer saves 4.5 manats ($2.6) for every 100 kilometers
