SOCAR: Modernization of oil refineries is of great environmental importance for Azerbaijan

Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery (HAOR) Modernization and Reconstruction Project of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is of great environmental importance for our country, said Tural Maharramov, Environmental Manager of SOCAR Downstream Management Company, Report informs.

According to him, attention was paid to the requirements of local and international environmental legislation during the project.

He also noted that modern technologies have been applied and preventive measures have been taken.

Today, a public hearing was held to inform the public about the work done under the project, to discuss the construction of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and the pipeline to discharge the treated wastewater into the Caspian Sea, and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) document prepared for its operation.

The event was attended by representatives of various government agencies, environmental experts, media, and non-governmental organizations. During the public hearing, the participants were informed about the work done under the Modernization and Reconstruction Project and new facilities, in particular the positive and potential impacts of the WHO on the ecology and the environment, as well as the post-project environmental management plan and monitoring.
