Rovshan Najaf, the first vice-president of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), acting president, met with the European Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson, Report informs.
Rovshan Najaf noted that they discussed increasing gas production in Azerbaijan, the prospects of expansion of the TANAP and TAP pipelines and the importance of the support of the European Union in this direction.
Yesterday Azerbaijan and the European Union signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Partnership in the energy field. Under the document, Azerbaijan aims to increase the volume of gas transportation to 12 billion cubic meters next year and to 20 billion cubic meters in the following years.
Currently, the volume of gas transported to Europe is 8 billion cubic meters.
The memorandum was signed in Baku by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
