SOCAR actively implements methane guiding principles

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is actively participating in the implementation of the Methane Guiding Principles (MGP) to reduce methane emissions, SOCAR's department head Mustafa Gurbanli told a panel session on advancing global methane reduction held as part of the Baku Climate Action Week, Report informs.

Gurbanli emphasized that within this program, SOCAR is actively collaborating with BP: "When we saw that BP was also working on this project in Azerbaijan, we decided to work together."

Gurbanli reminded that SOCAR has already committed to reducing emission levels by 2035: "We are trying to encourage other companies in Azerbaijan, especially small and medium-sized oil and gas operators, to join these commitments, as well as to take necessary steps to achieve zero emissions by 2050."

According to him, SOCAR is aiming to apply artificial intelligence to automate data processing.

"We are working on applying artificial intelligence to our system to automate the entire process of measurement, calculation, and data processing," said the SOCAR department head.
