Rovshan Najaf: Azerbaijan has opportunity to meet growing demand for gas

Azerbaijan has the opportunity to meet the growing demand for gas, and now exports its gas to Europe through the Southern Gas Corridor, the first vice-president of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), acting president Rovshan Najaf said on the first day of the conference within the Baku Energy Forum, according to Report.

"However, this project cannot meet the increasing demand, but we are working on it," he said.

The SOCAR official added that cooperation with financial institutions should be increased for the implementation of gas projects:

"We are negotiating with our partners to boost the attractiveness of the Caspian Sea. Of course, we want to do this within the rules and with zero carbon emissions.

"As an energy company, SOCAR operates to meet medium and long-term energy demand. We strive to be a more digital company, which has its advantages, such as the reduction of carbon emissions."

He believes that the demand for oil and gas will remain stable for several years:

"Environmental issues must be observed in oil and gas processes. Unfortunately, the gas sector has faced a lack of investment in recent years, but it needs to be developed. Azerbaijan is also a gas exporter."
