Renewable energy potential of Azerbaijan's liberated areas announced

The solar and wind energy potential of the liberated territories of Azerbaijan is about 10,000 MW, former minister of communications and high technologies, general director of the Institute of Control Systems of ANAS, academician Ali Abbasov told Report.

According to Abbasov, this is more than the total demand of Azerbaijan:

"There is Order No. 2620 dated May 3, 2021, by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on measures to establish a 'green energy' zone in the liberated territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In accordance with this order, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the 'Action plan for the establishment of the green energy zone in the liberated territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2022-2026'.

"According to this plan, our institute will take an active part in measuring the potential of renewable energy sources in the liberated areas. This is a fundamental issue for our country."

Abbasov said that today Azerbaijan's demand for renewable energy sources is 7,900-8,000 MW:

"Therefore, all this should be planned. We have already been tasked to carry out mathematical calculations and modeling of the existing potential with the help of computers and provide an optimal option."
