Production in Kura Basin oil fields grows by 6% in 2021

In 2021, 0.95 million barrels of oil were extracted from the Kursangi-Garabaghli block, 0.05 million barrels or 5.55% more than the corresponding period in 2020, Report informs citing the review by the Chamber of Accounts on the “Annual report on the execution of the budget of the State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2021.”

Thus, last year, the field was expected to produce 0.98 million barrels of oil, which is 0.03 million barrels or 3.06% more than the actual figure.

The Kursangi and Garabaghli fields, located in the Kura Basin of Azerbaijan’s land area, have been exploited since 1962 and 1960, respectively. The Agreement on “Rehabilitation, Exploration, Development and Production Sharing of the Block, which includes the Kursangi and Garabaghli oil fields in the Republic of Azerbaijan”, was signed on December 15, 1998, by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Frontera Resources, and Delta / Hess Ltd and entered into force on April 22, 1999. Salyan Oil Ltd Operating Company was established to carry out work on the Kursangi and Garabaghli oil fields. China National Petroleum Corporation (CNODC) has acquired the contract shares of Frontera Resources and Delta / Hess Ltd Since March 2002. The agreement area is 450 km2.

During the operation period, 808 wells were drilled in the fields, of which 494 wells are located in the Kursangi and 314 wells in the Karabakhli fields.
