Popescu: Romania needs transit agreements for gas supply from Azerbaijan

Romania needs transit contracts for gas supply from Azerbaijan, Energy Minister, Virgil-Daniel Popescu, said at the 5th Romania International Gas Conference, Report informs.

According to him, the Romanian side has been working on the import of natural gas from other countries besides Russia for a long time: "We need transit contracts to transport gas, LNG from other countries and Azerbaijan. We are working on them. We will present them to the public after completing the unloading of LNG at certain ports in Greece or Turkiye."

The Gas Interconnector Greece–Bulgaria (IGB), which will transport Azerbaijan's natural gas, allows a part of gas transportation from the Southern Balkans to be delivered to the Giurgiu–Ruse pipeline, which has been active for a long time, and then to the center of the continent via BRUA through Hungary.

Popescu also noted that Romania was invited to the opening of the IGB on October 1.
