Peter Szijjarto: Hungary rejects any energy sanctions

Hungary's spendings on energy imports has increased from 7 billion euros to 17 billion euros, and we reject energy sanctions because of an additional cost of 10 billion euros, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said during the plenary discussions themed “International cooperation on energy security and sustainability” on the first day of the Baku Energy Forum held today, Report informs.

He said that the security of energy supply has become an international political issue: “Our goal is to eliminate political approaches and political disputes related to energy supply. We must consider energy supply not as a philosophical and ideological issue, but as a physical and mathematical issue. We reject any ideological approach, or intervention to guarantee the security of Hungary’s energy supply. Guaranteeing our country's secure energy supply is a matter of sovereignty.”

The minister noted that there are three main conditions for ensuring a safe and stable energy supply on a global scale in the current difficult conditions: “First, discrimination against nuclear power must be ended. Second, it is necessary to eliminate the interventions related to the gradual separation of natural gas from national energy. The third condition means no to all artificial measures that limit unhindered, fair and free international energy cooperation.”
