Energy Ministers of the OPEC countries will hold a meeting today, two sources in the organization said, Report informs, citing foreign media.
The meeting aims to discuss the election of a new Secretary-General. The only candidate is the former governor of Kuwait to the OPEC, Haitham al-Ghais.
Nigerian Mohammad Barkindo is due to step down at the end of July this year. He took OPEC’s top job in mid-2016 and was granted a second three-year term in 2019.
Al-Ghais is the only candidate to be nominated so far, the sources said.
