Number of drilling rigs down in March

The number of drilling rigs for oil and gas extraction worldwide decreased in March by 39 units, or by 3%, compared to a month earlier, and amounted to 1,231 units, Report informs referring to the American oilfield services company Baker Hughes.

On an annualized basis, the number of operating rigs fell by 733, or 37%.

In the United States, according to the company, the indicator, in monthly terms, increased by 10 rigs, or 2.5%, and amounted to 408 rigs, in Canada - decreased by 63, or almost 37%, to 108 rigs.

The number of rigs in Europe increased by 2 to 100 units, in the Middle East - increased by 1 to 261. In the Asia-Pacific region, the number of rigs increased by 9 to 170, in Africa - by 2 to 59. In Latin America, the figure remained unchanged at 125.

Baker Hughes provides weekly data on the number of rigs in the US and Canada since 1944. Since 1975, the service company has been publishing the number of rigs around the world every month.
