Nigeria, Congo declare commitment to OPEC

Nigeria and Congo have reaffirmed their commitment to OPEC after Angola announced it was leaving the organization, reads a statement by Minister of Petroleum Resources of Nigeria, Heineken Lokpobiri, Report informs referring to Interfax.

“I am pleased to reaffirm OPEC’s unwavering commitment as we navigate a dynamic global energy sector,” he said.

In turn, Congo’s Oil Minister Bruno Utua also issued a statement about the country's commitment to "the strategic policies defined by the secretary general of OPEC and OPEC+" and efforts to stabilize and promote the sustainable development of oil markets.

“The Republic of Congo is committed to continuing close and constructive cooperation with all participating countries,” the minister emphasized.

During the last meeting of the OPEC+ alliance in early December, these three countries argued with the other participants about production quotas. Agreements were reached with difficulty, but last week the official Angolan news agency ANGOP, citing Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas Diamantino Pedro Azevedo, announced its withdrawal from OPEC, which led to speculation in the market about the potential termination of membership of other countries.
