New oil field to contribute $2.9B to Turkish economy

The discovery of a new oil field in the region of the Cudi and Gabar mountains in the southeastern Turkish province of Sirnak will radically change the situation in the domestic market of Türkiye, the head of the Association of Oil and Gas Platforms of Türkiye Murat Kalay said, Report informs via Anadolu Agency.

He noted that oil production at the new field is expected to be 100,000 barrels per day, which will bring $2.9 billion of contribution to the development of the economy.

"According to official data, 100 wells will be drilled at the field, and production will reach 100,000 barrels per day. Of course, it will not be possible to bring production to such a level right away. Phased work will be required," he said.

Kalay recalled the discovery last year of another large oil field in Türkiye, called Esma Cevik, which made it possible to bring the volume of oil production in the country to 80,000 barrels per day.

"Already after 2-3 years, thanks to the field in Sirnak, production will reach 150,000-180,000 barrels. So, Türkiye will be able to provide about 20% of domestic demand from its own resources," the head of the Association stated.
