Mikayil Jabbarov: SOCAR has undertaken to reduce methane emissions to zero

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) undertook a voluntary commitment to reduce methane emissions to zero by 2035 at the World Climate Action Summit organized within the 28th session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference – COP 28, Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Economy, Chairman of SOCAR's Supervisory Board, told journalists, Report informs.

According to him, SOCAR has signed relevant documents in this regard:

"As the main direction in this area, a number of technical and technological measures will be implemented to reduce methane emissions generated during oil and gas production. This reflects both the attention paid to climate issues in our country and one of the biggest goals aimed at this global conference."

The Minister said that at the event, efforts were made to draw attention to the works and projects related to climate issues in Azerbaijan, the initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan, the President's declaration of the liberated territories as green energy zones, the active role of the country in the implementation of a number of regional initiatives, and the issues on the agenda.
