Media: Italy's storage facilities can provide only third of gas consumption in winter

Italy's 13 underground storage facilities can store up to 17 billion cubic meters of gas, equivalent to one-third of winter demand, the economic newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore said.

Report informs, citing the newspaper, that underground gas storage facilities (UGS) in Italy are 93% full. But 13 such objects are not enough. Therefore, the energy company Snam, which owns nine storage facilities, is studying projects for the construction of new complexes.

Most UGS facilities are located in the north of the country, with Lombardy accounting for about 40% of the capacity.
