Manager: ACWA Power to fully commission 240 MW wind farm in Azerbaijan by December 2025

Saudi ACWA Power plans to fully commission the 240 MW Khizi-Absheron wind power plant (WPP) in Azerbaijan by December 2025, company's manager for Azerbaijan and Türkiye, Selim Guven said in an interview with Report.

"The construction of the wind farm continues successfully. In 2025, the station will gradually reach its design capacity from September to November. Specifically, according to our schedule, the station's capacity will reach 80 MW in September, 160 MW in October, and 240 MW in November," said Guven.

He also noted that the total project cost is $340 million.

"Part of the financing will come from the company's own funds, and part from bank loans. We attracted funds from a syndicate that included the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the OPEC Fund, amounting to $240 million dollars, while $100 million is our own funds," he said.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the 240 MW Khizi-Absheron WPP took place in January 2022. The project will install 40 turbines with 6 MW capacity each, including 17 in Pirekushkul village of Absheron district and 23 in Sitalchay village of Khizi district. The WPP will be able to generate about 1 billion kWh of electricity annually. The commissioning of this station will also allow saving about 220 million cubic meters of natural gas per year.
