Lithuania, Poland agree to lay Harmony Link energy cable overland

Lithuanian and Polish power transmission system operators Litgrid and PSE have signed a cooperation agreement in the development of the Harmony Link overland power transmission line between Lithuania and Poland, Report informs referring to Lithuanian media.

The project involves the construction of a new double-circuit power transmission line with a voltage of 220 kilowatts between the Polish power station Elk-Bies and the new Lithuanian substation in Gizaj, as well as the construction of new substations in the Polish villages of Norki and Wigry and the reconstruction of the existing power line in the Ostroleka - Elk-Bies section in Poland.

Litgrid CEO Rokas Masiulis said Harmony Link will also enable commercial energy trading once the Baltics are synchronized with continental European networks.

It is expected that by the end of 2024, Litgrid and PSE will decide on financial investments, confirming the commitment of both parties to finance and implement the project.

According to the original schedule, the tender for construction work should be announced in 2026. At the same time, the Harmony Link cable itself should be included in the network by the end of 2030.

At this stage, contractors' proposals exceeded the project amount of 680 million euros by almost 2.5 times.
