The STAR Oil Refinery, an asset of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) in Türkiye, will supply Istanbul Airport with 700,000 tons of aviation fuel annually for the next three years, Report informs, citing SOCAR Türkiye.
The company stated that this strategic partnership will further increase its contribution to the aviation industry: "We are pleased to announce this collaboration."
This year, Istanbul Airport's annual aircraft fuel demand is expected to exceed 3 million tons. 23.3% of this demand (700,000 tons) will be supplied by STAR Refinery, while 60% (1.8 million tons) will be provided by Turkey Petroleum Refineries Corporation (Tupras).
Between January and October 2024, STAR Refinery produced 838,579 tons of kerosene for jet engines (aviation fuel). In total, oil refineries in Türkiye produced 4,802,500 tons of aviation fuel during this period. Thus, a significant portion of the aviation fuel produced by STAR Refinery will be supplied to Istanbul Airport. Currently, STAR Refinery holds a 17.5% share in Türkiye’s aviation fuel production market.
SOCAR Aviation first won the tender announced by Istanbul Airport in 2019 for the annual supply of 700,000 tons of aircraft fuel.
