The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has proposed that Azerbaijan join the Global Offshore Wind Alliance, Report informs, citing the Energy Ministry of Azerbaijan.
The proposal was made during a meeting between Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera.
The sides noted the importance of the initiative for Azerbaijan's green energy agenda, given the country's significant wind energy potential in the Caspian Sea.
The meeting also reviewed the results of long-standing cooperation between Azerbaijan and IRENA. La Camera described Azerbaijan as one of the agency's most active and reliable partners and said the initiatives launched at COP29 on energy storage systems, power grids and hydrogen had made an important contribution to the global energy agenda.
Preparations for COP31 were also discussed. The sides exchanged views on organizing events in Antalya focused on implementing the COP29 Global Energy Storage and Grids Pledge and putting commitments under the Hydrogen Declaration into practice.
They also discussed support for advancing these initiatives, the role of hydrogen in the energy transition, and the growing importance of clean fuels in aviation and shipping.
The meeting also covered Azerbaijan's role as vice-president of the IRENA Assembly for the next term and future areas of cooperation with the agency.
