Moldova to buy gas from Russia’s Gazprom at new price

In January, Russian gas will cost Moldova more than in December, Head of Moldovagaz Vadim Cheban told RIA Novosti, Report informs.

“The purchase price of gas in January rose to $647 per 1,000 cubic meters,” he said.

At the same time, in December, fuel for Chisinau cost $550 per 1,000 cubic meters.

As a result, the National Energy Regulatory Agency may have to reconsider the tariff for consumers. In November, it increased from $245 to $586 per 1,000 cubic meters, and from January 1, it lost three dollars.

Recently, Moldovan President Maia Sandu has urgently convened the Supreme Security Council to discuss a possible energy crisis. The Security Council recommended that the government take measures to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to consumers.

At the end of October, the authorities of the republic had already introduced a state of emergency in the energy sector, as the agreement with Gazprom was coming to an end, and the extension was hindered by the non-payment of debts by Chisinau. Nevertheless, on October 29, the parties signed a new five-year contract.
