Ilgar Alizada: SOCAR Midstream Operations carrying out expansion works at Kulevi terminal

All major works on the expansion of the oil terminal in Kulevi have been entrusted to SOCAR Midstream Operations, terminal's General Director Ilgar Alizada said at the Caspian and Central Asia Oil Trade and Transport forum in Baku.

"The Kulevi terminal, built in 2008, is today the most technologically advanced marine terminal in Georgia. It handles a larger volume of oil product transshipment than the ports of Batumi and Poti combined," he said.

According to Alizada, the current capacity of the terminal's tank farm is 407,000 cubic meters. Its expansion is currently underway, which includes the construction of four new tanks with a capacity of 20,000 cubic meters each. As a result, the total capacity will reach 487,000 cubic meters.

"We can simultaneously unload up to 208 railcars, the terminal has 6 loading racks. Georgia's first oil refinery is being built 3 km from the terminal. In the first stage, its annual capacity will be 1.1 million tons, and from 2026-2027, it will be increased to 3.5 million tons. Kulevi will become the exclusive partner of this refinery and will ensure the reception and dispatch of all its products," emphasized the terminal's general director.
