Germany needs 86 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year, while contracts provide only 75 billion cubic meters, Report informs via Bild am Sonntag newspaper
So, Germany is short of 11 billion cubic meters.
The statistics are given in a letter from the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck, which the Budget Committee of the Bundestag received.
"It's still not clear how to increase LNG imports," Mark Helfrich, a representative of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union energy bloc, said. "How Germany will overcome the next heating season" depends on this, he said.
Helfrich noted that with a shortage of LNG, energy will again have to be saved in the fall. "For the economy, this will mean a reduction in production," he assumed.
