Georgian Minister: This project is no less important than BTC

"The Black Sea underwater high-voltage transmission cable will connect the energy systems of Georgia and Europe. This project is no less important than the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan project in terms of potential," Georgia's Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava said during a "ministerial hour" speech in parliament, Report informs.

The Minister said that an entirely new reality would emerge with the implementation of the project: "Our energy market will be connected to the European market not only physically but also legally. The project envisages 1,200 kilometers of underwater cable with a 1,000-megawatt transmission capacity. This will allow us to take advantage of extensive export opportunities in the South Caucasus and Europe and import electricity at market prices per hour."
