Georgia's spending on natural gas imports from Azerbaijan surged in December

In 2024, Georgia imported 1.664 billion cubic meters of natural gas, valued at $254.3 million from Azerbaijan, Report informs, citing Georgia's National Statistics Office.

Compared to 2023, the imports dropped by 6 percent in volume and 19 percent in value.

Thus, Azerbaijan ranked first among countries exporting natural gas to Georgia.

In December 2024 alone, Georgia purchased 208 million cubic meters of natural gas worth $36.152 million from Azerbaijan, representing a 1 percent decline in volume and a 2.8 percent increase year-on-year (YoY).

Overall, Georgia imported 2.315 billion cubic meters of natural gas, valued at $435.5 million in 2024. This marks a 2.7 percent increase in volume and a 2 percent decrease in value compared to the previous year.

During the reporting period, the other natural gas suppliers to Georgia were:

- Russia: 651 million cubic meters worth $181 million;

- Iran: 85,540 cubic meters worth $134,000;

- Austria: 149,700 cubic meters worth $66,330;

- The UK: 10 cubic meters worth $24,350$.
