Georgia, Azerbaijan boost energy exchange

Work is underway to strengthen the connection between the energy systems of Georgia and Azerbaijan, Report informs, citing Georgian State Electrosystem.

As part of the process, the 330-kilowatt Gardabani single-circuit transmission line will be replaced by double-circuit lines. Upon completion of the project, the capacity of the lines will double.

The transmission lines connect the power systems of Georgia and Azerbaijan through the Gardabani 500 and Agstafa substations. The project will also include the complete reconstruction of the Gardabani 500 substation.

According to the state company, it will be possible to exchange 700-1000 MW of electricity between the power systems of Georgia and Azerbaijan, which will significantly increase the capacity of the two countries and the reliability of synchronized operation.

Work on the project is scheduled for completion in June this year.
