Fatih Donmez: Turkiye can help Europe overcome energy crisis with LNG supplies

Turkiye can annually supply about 40 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to European countries, thus making a significant contribution to overcoming the energy crisis, Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Donmez said, Report informs referring to TASS.

“If the parties agree, we can <...> play a constructive role in overcoming the energy crisis. Today we have two LNG terminals at sea and three on land, thanks to which we can supply about 40 billion cubic meters of gas per year to Europe if necessary,” the minister said.

According to Donmez, Turkiye receives liquefied gas mainly from the Persian Gulf countries, as well as from Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria and occasionally from the US.

“Some of our five LNG terminals are particularly convenient for use during the summer months. If there are proposals, we can supply gas to European countries using these terminals,” Donmez said. He specified that Turkiye’s annual demand for natural gas is 55-60 billion cubic meters and it ranks fourth in Europe in terms of its consumption.
