European Commission eyes convening emergency meeting of EU energy ministers

The European Commission (EC) will convene a new emergency meeting of EU energy ministers before the end of September to consider measures aimed at overcoming the energy crisis, Deputy Prime Minister in the Spanish government and the Minister for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge Teresa Ribera said in an interview with TV3, Report informs citing TASS.

“We will have to see exactly what conditions the [European] Commission puts forward ahead of these final negotiations, ahead of the approval of the regulation on September 30, apparently before the end of the month at the [EU] Extraordinary Energy Council, which EC Chair Ursula von der Leyen will convene again,” she said.

The EC considers it important to introduce a price ceiling for Russian gas in connection with Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, while Brussels fears that the introduction of a price ceiling for LNG may undermine the security of supplies.
