EU to invest about 350B euros to obtain "green" energy

The EU will invest about 350 billion euros in the industrial production of "green" energy. This amount will be about 2% of EU GDP, European Commissioner Thierry Breton told El Pais newspaper, Report informs.

He said that the EU countries "become stronger when they pool resources."

Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated that within the REPowerEU initiative (the European plan for avoiding dependence on Russian energy resources), it is necessary to develop "green" energy. Investments are necessary to exclude the possibility of "energy blackmail" by Russia, she added.

A third of all the rare earth elements that are needed for "green" energy are mined in China, and the EU does not want to be dependent on China either.
