EU funding creation of internal infrastructure lines for energy security

The issue of energy security is of particular importance for the European Union, therefore funds are allocated for the creation of internal infrastructure lines, Christina Lobillo Borrero, Director for Energy Policy, Strategy and Coordination at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy, said at the Baku Energy Week, which started today, Report informs.

She noted that the European Union should replace Russian gas by 2027: “The crisis that started last year was twice as big as the previous crises. The price of gas in European Union countries was quite high. Our dependence on Russian gas was 90%. After the invasion of Ukraine, EU political leaders adopted a plan. According to the plan, it is supposed to replace Russian gas with more reliable gas suppliers.”

Borrero emphasized that the strategic cooperation with Azerbaijan and the documents signed with European countries in the field of energy meet the political interests of the EU: “We continue our cooperation with Azerbaijan.”
