Azerbaijan determined to retain its leading position in global energy sector, deputy energy minister says

Azerbaijan is determined to retain its leading position in the global energy sector, Deputy Minister of Energy Elnur Soltanov told Report, highlighting the critical role of strategic cooperation with Türkiye in this effort.

“It is impossible to imagine Azerbaijan’s achievements in the oil and gas sector without the involvement of Türkiye,” Soltanov said, noting that Azerbaijan has started moving down the value chain. “Beyond production, we are now focusing on areas such as transportation and processing of energy resources, in which we are actively cooperating with Türkiye.”

While describing the two countries' relationship as rooted in brotherhood, Soltanov emphasized the importance of strengthening these ties through economic collaboration.

“These fraternal relations are invaluable, but when supported by strong economic foundations, they become even more sustainable. Azerbaijan has broad and ambitious goals in the energy sector, including in green energy,” he said.

Soltanov concluded that Azerbaijan’s continued partnership with Türkiye will be instrumental in achieving new milestones.
