It is too early to assess the possible consequences of Ukraine’s decision not to renew the agreement on the transit of Russian gas to Europe after 2024, Tim McPhie, a representative of the European Commission (EC), said at a briefing in Brussels, Report informs.
He noted that the EU’s position is in the diversification of energy sources, in particular, the abandonment of Russian energy resources and the transition to increasing energy efficiency, reducing demand, and introducing “green” technologies.
Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian Naftogaz, Oleksiy Chernyshov, said that Kyiv does not intend to renew the transit agreement.
“The agreement is valid until December 31, 2024. This is a fairly distant prospect to try to predict the situation that will develop at that time,” he said.
