EC rep: No energy price hikes observed in EU after termination of Russian gas supplies via Ukraine

There have been no electricity price spikes in the European Union following the cessation of Russian gas supplies through Ukraine, EC representative Anna-Kaisa Itkonen said at a press conference in Brussels.

"We haven't seen any price spikes in the new year; the market remains stable," she said, responding to journalists' questions.

Itkonen emphasized that the EC is closely monitoring the situation regarding electricity prices.

As of January 1, 2025, Russian gas supplies to the EU through Ukraine's territory have been stopped due to Kyiv's decision not to extend the transit agreement with Moscow.
