Deputy Minister of Energy: Incorrect to link climate change solely to energy sector

It is incorrect to attribute climate change issues solely to the impact of the energy sector, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Energy and Executive Director of COP29, Elnur Soltanov, said at the International Scientific Conference on Economics and Management.

Report quotes him as saying although the industrial revolution and economic progress became possible due to the extensive use of traditional energy sources, claiming that the energy sector is the sole cause of climate problems is a mistake.

“About 30% of all emissions are linked to agriculture, waste management, and other production processes that are not directly related to energy,” he emphasized.

Soltanov added that economically developed countries remain the main sources of greenhouse gases, and significant investments are required to transition to a more environmentally sustainable model.
