Deputy energy minister: Uzbekistan considers Europe as main market for electricity exports

Uzbekistan views Europe as the main market for its electricity exports, Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Umid Mamadaminov said, Report informs referring to Uzbek media.

On May 1, as part of the Tashkent Investment Forum, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on the integration of energy systems for the supply of green electricity to Europe. The document involves studying the possibility of connecting the energy systems of the three countries by laying a high-voltage cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea and on the territory of other states to carry out such supplies.

“By teaming up with Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, we are considering supplying electricity along the bottom of the Caspian Sea to Romania and further to other European countries,” Mamadaminov said.

He noted that Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Bukhara and Navoi regions of Uzbekistan are considered regions with high green energy potential.

“The potential of solar and wind energy exceeds 300 GW. For this volume of electricity, we need to find markets. Our main market is Europe,” the deputy minister emphasized.

He added that Azerbaijan “has long" agreed to build networks through Georgia and the Black Sea.

“Now they have turned to us because Azerbaijan does not have enough resources in green energy,” Mamadaminov noted.
