Construction of Khudafarin and Maiden Tower HPPs to be completed by 2024

The implementation of the Khudafarin, Maiden Tower hydroelectric power stations, and hydropower projects (HPPs), which have great potential for sustainable energy supply, is progressing well, the Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov said in an article published in the Respublika newspaper dedicated to the "October 20 Energy Day" entitled "A new era of Azerbaijani energy begins in Karabakh and East Zangazur."

According to him, the construction of dams at the Khudafarin and Maiden Tower hydro junctions has been completed. At present, discussions are underway on the purchase and installation of facilities and equipment of both HPPs, as well as the calculation of construction costs and the amount of damage.

The minister said that the construction of Khudafarin and Maiden Tower HPPs with a total installed capacity of 200 MW and 80 MW is planned to be completed by 2024: "The implementation of these projects, which have become a symbol of great confidence in the liberation of our territories on the eve of the Great Patriotic War, will allow Azerbaijan to produce 358 million kWh of electricity per year, improve irrigation on existing 252,000 hectares and irrigate 12,000 hectares of new crops."
