Companies from Asia start storing gas in Ukrainian facilities

The operator of gas storage facilities in Ukraine - Ukrtransgaz JSC - in April attracted the 100th foreign customer of services - a gas trader from the Czech Republic, according to the press service of the company, Report informs referring to Ukrainian media.

Over the year, the number of foreign customers doubled - at the beginning of 2020, 47 foreign companies used the services of Ukrainian gas storage facilities, while at the beginning of 2019 - only 7.

In general, companies from 26 countries store gas in Ukrainian facilities.

"Until the beginning of the year, these were companies from the EU, the US and Canada. Since 2021, Asian companies from the UAE, Singapore and Hong Kong have also used the services of Ukrainian gas storage facilities," it said.

Ukrtransgaz notes that favorable tariffs for gas storage, services "Customs warehouse" (without paying a duty for 1,095 days) and "short haul" (a special tariff for transporting gas from the border to underground storage facilities), transparent interaction within the provision of services became the key factors in attracting foreigners to store gas in Ukrainian facilities.

“Over the past two years, we have attracted the leading players in the global gas market to store gas in Ukrainian underground storage facilities. We entered the current heating season with 10 billion cubic meters gas, owned by foreigners. Now, at the end of the season, half of these reserves - almost 5 billion cubic meters - remains in storage in Ukraine,” said the acting CEO of Ukrtransgaz Sergiy Pereloma.
