CEO: Eni won't pay for Russian gas in rubles

The Italian Eni will not pay for the supply of Russian gas in rubles, as it does not have the opportunity to do so, Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi said at the Global Energy Forum in the UAE, Report informs via TASS.

According to Descalzi, Eni has already announced its withdrawal from the Blue Stream joint project with the Russian Federation, and joint projects with Rosneft have been frozen since 2014.

"So the only big problem is gas. Yes, we have no assets in Russia, we have no projects there. But we buy Russian gas. They asked us to pay for it in rubles. We will not be able to do this because we do not have rubles. And this is not envisaged in the contract, which specifies payments in euros. You cannot change this unilaterally. There must be an agreement for such a change ... Yes, now Italy imports gas from Russia through the territory of Ukraine. But we're not sure about future deliveries, to be honest," he said.
